Good, well priced suspension and shocks.
« on: 12 May 2008, 14:42 »
My rear shocks have gone on my 96 P reg GTI 8v and I am looking around for some replacements.

Instead of getting standard shocks I am going to take the opportunity to get a new set of springs and shocks aswell and try and drop the car a little. Not much only looking for around 30-40mm max.

I have a few ideas but need some advise on what people have on their mk3, where to get them from and what price I should be looking at.

Any help would be appreciated.

Yeah have seen the group buy but heard differing stories about how long they last, so wasnt sure.

Not after a massive drop, just a little one but need an increase in handling as its like riding a big wobbly jelly to work at the moment.

can do but hes not looking for much of a drop.

Bilsteins are one of the best makes you can buy, ive got a full Bilstein kit on my GTi and its great, no problems at all.

Wont be if you got these chap, mine is firm, felt abit too firm coming from a standard escort gti but i soon got used to it, it just goes round corners so well, and turning in you dont get that horrible feeling of the cars weight shifting from left to right or vise versa, just turns in instantly  and when you pull away and stop, the nose doesnt dive or lunge forward.

Think I will be ordering these then, I have no confidence in it at the moment if I hit a pothole goign around the corner the back end is all over the place. Not too bothered about it being a bit firm anything is better than what it is now.

agree with VW_08 on this one.....if your only spending a few hundred and its a daily car get a decent shock/spring set up

Just for info, did see these as well, rung up and was told anything up to 2weeks to get plus that price is plus vat and carriage (£235 all in I think) also this is a old model now, I went for the hottuning coilovers in the end, at lease you can pick how low you want it, if you fit a lowering kit and not happy with the drop you have got to change springs again etc.

Thanks for that mate, will have to have another look around then, not keen on the coilovers as its a daily driver and dont want to drop too much as I wont be able to get on my drive
