Climate Control
« on: 12 May 2008, 12:22 »
Hiya all just got my Golf yesterday.

Ive not got the handbook just wondered if someone could explain how the climate controll works. Especially the difference between the Auto and the ECO functions. Is one using the air con and one just the air outside ?

Auto means it will control using the A/C to the temperature that is set. Eco means that it will attempt to control to the set temperature but just using the fans and not the A/C (thus not using more petrol).

In case you dont know the diffrence between A/C and climate control is the A/C is a simple on / off cooling system that you have to manualy turn it off when your too cold / hot. The climate control controls the temperature of the car to the temperature that you set and will control the fan and A/C to achieve this temp.

Does that all make sense?

Thanks very much for that. Thought that would be the case just wanted to check.

One other question is. When its in Auto mode why does the auto light go off if you turn the fans up or down ? Or will it come back on when the right temp has been reached ?

Because its auto mode it is controlling the fan speed automaticaly, if you manualy change it it spits its dummy out and thinks that you want control back so goes out of auto. From experience I have found its best to just leave it in auto, if you are either too hot or too cold just adjust the temp gauge rather than the fan speed as that is what the climate controls does for you.
