R32 kit -

http://www.jkm.org.uk/performance/tfsibrakes.htm

....And although I have AP Racing big brake kit and swear by them, I add my voice to Stu's and say that Jim/JKM really knows what he's doing and that's a very good deal JKM are offering.

What are the options for bigger brakes if you have 17" wheels like I do?

I was lucky enough to get a MK5 R32 front set up for £205 of ebay.I have a question though what does the brake carrier look like? Is it the H type bit of metal in the pic i have enclosed? I have no idea and want to make sure i have it or can i use the existing ed30 one?

Keith,

I think you have the caliper carriers in that pic, as you describe, the H pieces.  these will bolt to the Hub assembly.  as per the pic here they are laid out on the floor, yours are attached to the caliper.

http://www.jkm.org.uk/performance/Misc/Misc_Performance_pictures/TFSI-images/Overviewpage/brakes/JKMBB2_big.jpg

They position the caliper a distance away from the centre of the whole rotating mass i.e. the brake disc.

They have to be further away to take into account the bigger discs.

Ed 30 discs are 312 mm dia, i.e. a radius of 156mm, the R32 discs are 345mm, i.e. a radius of 172.5mm, as you can now see the carrier needs to position the caliper a further 16.5mm away from the centre, to allow clearance for the disc.

....The AP Racing Big Brake Kit definitely fit the Monza 17's. Not cheap (about £1,700 for 4-pot fronts) but well established as second to none (might share the No.1 spot though!). Here's a pic of my AP brakes on my GTI with the 17's in place - I run on 18's but have a spare set of 17's.

^ the kits cost alot, you could get the parts separately and get them done cheaper, that said my 6 pot was a set but that only cost £1299 + vat

looks to me if upgrades are intended to fit a VW or Audi you pay about 30% more (not strictly talking about brakes here, other upgrades too)

^ You get what you pay for. AP fitted mine for free and only charged me cost because of work I did for them, but I wouldn't recommend anyone trying to buy the full kit in bits and doing it themselves unless they have real experience. I don't think you can buy AP's bits separately unless they are replacement parts on an existing set anyway.

Thanks for that Stoke, i thought for a bad moment this morning i would have to buy carriers as the seller advised they weren't incl in the sale. But now i am well happy got the 2 front callipers and carriers discs and pads and splash guards for £205, need to paint them red now. Thanks again for the info Stokeballoon
