Keep your GTI out of sight....
« on: 08 May 2008, 13:23 »
Had to deal with an attempted break in early on Wednesday morning (about 2:30) - someone was having a go at the kitchen window with a screw driver and a hand drill (wooden frame), went downstairs and putting the light on seemed to scare them off.  My house is in a cul-de-sac at the far end of an estate with only one entry road into it so it wasn't an opportunity it was planned according to the police and they believe the scumbags were after my GTI   I'm not sure if the area has been targeted (I'll PM the area if anyone wants to know)  Bugger is at the moment I can't put it in the garage but also now seriously thinking of getting rid of her - I don't want the car I drive to be causing me and my girlfriend any problems with the wrong type of people!

Police sad these scumbags are getting around £500 per GTI and they are working in teams - WTF, not only are they stupid enough to steal them but they are getting a pitance for a 20K car.

Police also said get tracker fitted - I don't have it (had it on my old car - £120 a year!) but not sure I would want the car back if someone had nicked it and ragged it.

Over the next few weeks I'll be sleeping with the fat end of my snooker cue close by!

Hope the same sh!t (or worse) doesn't happen to anyone on here.  Be safe and dont have nightmares

Sorry to hear that Kermit.
Get some outside halogen security lights fitted, the type that detect movement. If possible park another car in front of it as well. I always sleep with the keys to my cars in the bedroom drawers, along with my wallet.  Dont leave keys near the front door on a key rack in clear view of the letterbox.

Its about time car crime was properly dealt with, longer harsher sentences and more Police on the streets catching criminals rather than targetting speeding motorists.

Although its relatively crime free where I live, I still have a Glock 9 for emergencies and go to Karate training just in case.

Sad times, I feel for you mate.

I always worry about this, just make sure you leave your keys out of sight for starters.

Garages dont seem to get used for cars these days

My car is garaged every night no matter how much of a pain in the arse it is I would advise others to do the same (if you have a garage!)

A real shame that a thing of such beauty has to be locked away but that is the state of Great Britain these days  :lipsrsealed:

Cheers guys - I didn't want to alarm anyone, just highlighting that the GTI remains desirable to the people not willing to work hard to get one (although my Kitchen window was being worked hard!). It's not nice knowing someone is creeping around on your property whilst you sleep.  Not sure what I would have done if not put the light on and walked in the kitched looking through the window at whoever it was - maybe a glock 9 would have been useful .

Police said we should have rang when we knew something was going on but with response times I wouldn't bother unless it was getting messy - as you say they would be too busy picking up speeding motorists somewhere else.

Keep my keys etc upstairs with me and the spares well hidden - will be looking at additional security measures like the lights tonight.  I have some work equipment in the garage, plus bikes etc so would need a miracle to get it back in there.  Might have to buy a house with a double garage

Pity to hear about the attempted break in.

Just my two cents although most people know it already.

Blank out your numberplates when you post pics up !! Thats the easiest way for anyone to track your car down. This is public domain.

Not good mate, might be worth investing in something like the sempal anti hijack system, or the Autowatch system, which lets them drive away with the keys but cuts the engine shortly after and lets you recover the car

Mine cant be garaged as its full of garden stuff so I have to make do with the drive way or street depeing on where the old man parks his motor. Keys are always in my room so thats not a problem. Im worried now lol :( I really dont know what I would do if I was stolen so soon after getting her.

I think this has been covered before alot, but just to air some caution, not all thieves will run away when a lights turned on, an keeping the keys up in your bedroom, f**k that! do you really want the bastards upstairs in your house, where your wife/girlfriend an kids are?

Im sad to say it cause im the last person youd expect to not put up a fight for my car, but at the end of the day, its just that, there insured, get a new one!

Id rather have no car than die or have some bad sh!t happen to my family because of it!
