Body Care Kit that VW offer
« on: 07 May 2008, 14:12 »
Hi All,

I would really like your views on the body care kit option that VW are offering.  I am hoping to pick up my new GTI in a couple of weeks and wondered if I should go for this in order to protect the paintwork etc.  I just wondered if you can see the film that they put over the paintwork and if this ruined the effect.

I liked the idea because I have gone for tornado red which I know can fade in time.  Is it just a con or worthwhile?

cheers,
Mart

id defo say no. buy your own stuff saves you LOADS!

www.detailingworld.co.uk

i bought the carlack kit, from cleanyourcar.co.uk. everyone recommends it, after one go over with both products i can tell the extra shine/gloss it has put on, and will protect too. theres so products to choose from which will cost less and do the same and better.

crappy examples of my 07 (phone camera so quality isnt great)

I have a Tornado red and i went for a paint care thing supplied by my dealers wife. Its not something that VW offer its her own different product. Its called Diamondbrite i think itslike a polish or something but during the first month iv had the car its been good. Everytime the car is dirty i just take it down to the jet wash, hose it down and wipe off excess water with a micro fibre cloth. Every month i drop the car off with the woman and she removes swirls and maintains the paint. Gonna go pick up the car today so i will try and get some pics for you

yeah dimondbright, same stuff as superguard... they are ok, nothing great... i had superguard on my old car and gf has dimondbright on hers now, i dont rate it at all.

its 100% not worth the money they charge, if it was £50-60 then fine, but for £150 odd. noo way.

I can't believe folks are still being suckered into this?

£10 product, £190 easy profit for the dealer .....

The supaguards/ diamondbrites are perhaps worth the £5-£10 you pay on ebay, but i would never pay a dealer to apply it, in fact i don't let them wash it,and i don't let them prep it before i take delivery either though, they rarely apply these kits how they should be applied, and they are known to inflict there own swirls and marring whilst applying such products.
Also if you think any protectant will last more than 6 months then you have sadly been taken in by the hype, most of these things need the use of a rejuvenator of some type to keep them going, which begs the question why not just add your own protection at a massive cost saving of these dealer supplied kits.
Im not trying to knock anyone who has bought it, but in my expereince its just a revenue builder for the dealers

Absolutely right, there are issues with mine which I didn't notice on collection but now the sun is out the swirls and holograms are very apparent. But I paid for a full 3 year guarantee and they are bloody well going to honour it

If they don't I'll get AutoDetox to do it properly and send them the bill.

you would be better off just washing it yourself and applying a very easy to apply product like OCW (optimum car wax), which can take just ten minutes to do the whole car
