This is strange.. cant pin point a fault
« on: 06 May 2008, 23:40 »
uhuh,  Ok i know my car is only a 1.8 not fast but mine is stupidly slow again...  It was slow when i got it then ran great for a bit, now its gone slow again.

It just has no power,  what i find odd is if i gently accelerate it pulls but if i put my foot down hard it just grunts (same as my GTI did) If i accelerate at full throttle it is very very flat and a bit lumpy but as i lift my foot off it actualy speeds up and pulls better at half throttle than full..  Is there something that is comon to cause this fault, the car runs fine other than that, its had lots of shell Vpower, redex, oil change, dizy cap, arm, plugs, full oil service etc..   my GTI did exactly the same thing!!!  But worse and i ended up scrapping it so its not good

ECU relay/fuel pump relay/blocked fuel filter/leak in vacuum lines somewhere - take your pick

This being a 1.8 must have a diffrent ECU relay or not one at all because its not where it is in the GTI,  I swaped the Fuel pump relay from the GTI and it made no diffrence but to be fair that did the same thing.  I will try a new fuel filter soon and then a relay, hopefully it will be ok.

There are no vacume leaks i can see

No i went from a 1.4 and a GTi to a 1.8.   Im swaping the 1.4 engine for something more fun!!!  Picked this 1.8 up for £250 to drive while i work on the 1.4.   Its a great little car :D   How ever.. has this problem.

I have changed the temp sender (the blue one at the top of the engine on the coolent pipe)  4 pin,  I got it for my GTI, brand new then put it on the 1.8, the engine looks the same as the 2.0l etc.. so guess its the same and seems to give a good reading on the guage.

Im breeding MK3s

Now, im wondering if it is the fuel pump relay, when is start the car it click and then clicks off and the engine fires and it splutters, then it clicks and the car fires up and runs.  I did change this for the one out of the GTI but that doent mean anything.

Are these strictly a deeler thing or can i get them from my usual parts supplier?

Cheers.
