MK2 Subframe just went
« on: 06 May 2008, 10:37 »
My front subframe just cracked and is now broken making my car undrivable I need to get it back on the road as soon as possible.

It's a mk2 1.3, was just wondering is there any difference in subframe between GTi and the 1.3?

Anyone got a front sub frame close(ish) to wolverhampton or the west midlands or know anywhere to get one from>?

I've got a nice Toledo subframe, which is exactly the same as a Golf2 one.... but with much less rust.

It's in Bristol and already stripped down, ready to go.

£40.

Available to collect now.

It's out of a P-reg motor, so is rust-free.  I'll grab a photo at lunch, if I get a moment.

Nice, sounds promising.

Just trying to get my sub frame off today with those lovely loose 20 year old bolts :), the ones that slide off like butter.

Once I have done that I will need the new frame pretty quickly so probably drive down to you tomorrow or very soon this week is that ok?

Oh and are you 100% sure it will definitely fit my mk2 golf? Don't wanna drive all the way there and it ends up not fitting :P.

careful when removing the rear bolts which go up through the chassis legs, the encapsulated nuts have a tendancy to shear off inside the chassis leg, leaving no option but for you to cut the floorpan open and re-weld a new nut!

happened to me  you could literally rock the front wheel to & fro about 2 inches whilst stationary...

I don't think a semi will give the same results

the wheel alignment would shift +/- 2 inches around corners  followed by a CLUNK! didnt sound healthy. you could feel the clunk right through the chassis...  :undecided:

Picture 1

Picture 2

I've linked to them as they're still at full resolution.

I can absolutely confirm the sub-frame is the same.  If you look the Toledo up on ETKA it gives you the part number of 191199315AD.

If you cross-reference that back to the VW range it comes up as the item used on the Golf2.

Yes, you are welcome to pick up the subframe in the next couple of days.

T'other half is about during the day and I can strip off the arms (if you want, although they're probably in better nick unless yours have been replaced) etc and leave it out ready for you.
