Ignition Barrel Troubles
« on: 05 May 2008, 23:31 »
Hello, about 5 months ago my golf was stolen from me, i got it back and all it had was a smashed in ignition barrel and broken steering lock and broken window. I changed the window and put on a new steering lock and new lock set, the steering lock thingy that wrapped around the black pipe didnt fit my 1989 small bumpered F reg mk2 so i tightened it up and because it was too small it eventually snapped under the pressure, so the steering lock i needed was slightly bigger than the one i got. The problem that has arisen is that im bought a cheepo lock set off of ebay and the ignition switch is playing up and not working very well at all, i was wondering if anybody would know what steering lock i would need for my model of golf, there to my knowledge is three kinds, heres pictures...

or

or

if anyone could help that would be fantastic, also i would like to know if the lock sets from GSF are any good, or are they the same as the cheepo ones off of ebay. Thanks alot people :).

I always buy original equipment from VW, then you know its right, but it costs a bloody fortune. Saying that, I have not heard bad reports from GSF items.

the gsf lock sets are crap, the bit which turns the ign switch will round off as its made from soft metal so wont engage the switch

make sure you get the earlier ignition switch!

I don't think a semi will give the same results
