HELP! New radiator & total power failure!
« on: 05 May 2008, 19:17 »
Need help ASAP!

Just putting the car back together after fitting a new radiator & having problems.

Engine running & as it's coming up to temp. hear a 'pop' on the left hand side & the engine cuts out & total loss of electrics, the clocks, stereo, ignition everything.

Head scratch for 5 mins then everything comes back on, turn the key & engine's fine.

Runs for longer this time, fully upto temp. & the fan kicks in, goes off, kicks in then seemed to miss or stall but recovered & runs for a bit again, fan on/off then same as before, no noise this time but total electrical outage.

Left it for 5 mins then all the powers back on?

Have put coolant in but needs to drop before I can add more?!

Any suggestions as it's getting dark & I need to get to work tomorrow!!

Well Haynes manual was no help but think it's sorted.

Looks like the coolant hadn't circulated sufficiently & once up to temp. a sensor was tripping to stop any damage to the engine, poured in coolant anywhere I could & it seems to of resolved things, undoubtably have to top it up over the next couple of days but relieved nonetheless!

You should give the hoses a squeeze after filling up to get air out of the system
