no cars need side repeaters iirc, but they're obviously a useful safety feature.

I do have a second car (the wifes) but sometimes need to use the car for commuting....but am much happier if the car's tucked up safe and sound in the garage 

This is one of the reasons that I'm considering selling the car. I originally was looking for a Mk2 GTI in good original condition with a lowish mileage but didn't think for a minute I'd up with something as rare and precious as this. Am terrified when I've got to leave it parked at the train station that some moron has decided to either dent it or help himself to the radio or nick the car for a 'joyride'. Although can't see them getting much in the local boozer for a 24 year old Blaupunkt AM/MW radio

Yes indeed that's a lovely clean early car.
The very first Mk2s didn't have side repeaters. Incidentally this is the first A-plater I've seen with the four-lamp grille, as the very early batches had two.
As it's a quietly understated car I wouldn't be too scared to leave it parked. Hopefully the casual thief or vandal wouldn't know what he was looking at. Drive & enjoy

Thanks for the info about the grill...I didn't know they ever came without the spots. It was registered in May '84 and I believe the Mk2 was launched in March of that year so can't be many cars without them.

Also interesting to see it on steels (which look great, btw) as I have read that the early cars all had standard alloys, which became a cost option on the three-door when the five-door was launched. The five-door always had alloys as standard.
