Giving the old girl her second wind!
« on: 04 May 2008, 19:30 »
Bought this Mk2 a few weeks ago off evilbay, a snip at £405
Was a bit tired and tatty....

Since then its had the front and rear driver badges removed, new outer headlights, new aerial, new head unit, a few good washes, a going over with a clay bar, a coat of polish, 4 coats of wax, a good scrub inside, a full service inc oil, oil filter plugs, air filter, leads, cap, rotor arm and coolant (except cambelt as the 6mm pulley bolts wouldn't shift but its having that done at my local garage for £60 ), all the plastic's had 2 coats of back to black stuff and a new set of Ronal Turbo's and Toyo Proxies and the all important PG Tips Monkey hanging from the rear window
I'm pretty pleased with it now

Watch this space, got a few more additions to make including Englemann mirrors, when I can find some blanking plates for the original mirrors, steering wheel, Cibie Spots, and maybe a GTi rear spoiler and interior for the Recaro seats and possibly a small drop in height, not much though, 20mm max.

Looks tidy.

What motor is it?  What carb is it running?
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

Its a 1.6 Driver, totally standard on the original carb at the moment.  Only 61,000 miles on her too and 2 previous owners.
I'll eventually get around to putting a full zorst inc. manifold and maybe a pair of twin 40's but at the moment I just want to get it looking right

Amazing the difference a decent wash and a set of wheels can make!

As for the gti spoiler, i think it would look better as it is at the moment tbh. A couple of bits that i think would compliment the colour and the ronals though are the chrome window surrounds from the GL and also the chrome trim bumpers. Should end up quite a "classy" looking motor

Not a massive fan of chrome tbh.
I think it'll be steering wheel and spots next, have a think after that

I just had some blue rear lights arrive for a tenner plus P+P courtesy of evilbay.

I've stuck em on, they don't look as washed out in the flesh.  Not sure yet whether or not I like them
I'll give em a few weeks and see.

Just ordered a new steering wheel which should be here Monday or Tuesday

Major transformation, looking really good......................until the addition of the rear lights, sorry they belong in the bin!!! Chuck on some half tint hellas, much more stylish.

But for the purest engine experience, displacement has no replacement. All other methods are simply attempts to artificially recreate the benefits of displacement.
