Hey people, I'm new here and am very impressed with the site content and how helpful u all r 2 each other. Wish i'd come here sooner. Sadly I had to part with my previous GTI, she was very tired but always made me smile, new owner who is a spanner whizz is gonna sort her out so at least i'll still see her. I'm now the proud owner of another 83 campaign, black, in mint condition with a GTI Engineering Silverstone engine, thats sadly a little tired also (only the head mind).
:'( The problem I have is that for the past month despite being typically tappety (very tappety), she's been going quite well, especially after 3 thousand revs, flies then (old high lifts). But all of a sudden she devolped an idle speed problem where she'd sit at 2k +. So for the time being I adjusted this. This was follwed a few days later by the timing being way out, so it sounded. She was missing and had a severe lack of power. I retarded ignition which solved the missing but that resulted in even less omph. Few days later, same again. The Dizzy seems to want to go round shed loads to keep her ticking over but its now as far back as it will go and still wants to go back more. If I return to the orginal setting before the first problem she wont even start. Car has lost all power and continually misses when cruising at any speed. The leads are not in the wrong order. I didnt do anything to it before now. the car has been dried stored from new and everything seems a little too dry. no grease on anything. been on to it. Is it possible the Cam belts slipped a tooth to cause my problem. Heard that the tentioner can be dodge if dry. Any help would be great.
