Yes, but my ipodTouch is too tall. And the iPhone is taller still. There is no adaptor to suit the touch or iphone, and thus not only does it sit proud but it's not got any support on the front and back faces. Close the armrest and you risk all sorts of damage. So plugging a cablejive cable into the vertical slot in the armrest and then into the ipodTouch/iPhone then allows you to lay the touch/phone on it's side inside the armrest, in front of the vertical ipod connector, with a case on the touch no less, and still be clear of the armrest so it can be safely closed.
Your solution only applies to vanilla old skool ipods.[/quote]
Quite correct, but that's the way VW designed it and that's why I got a nano to fit in there instead of the even older school CD multichanger

Does exactly what it says on the tin ! VW are not renowned to accommodate developing technology, look at how long it's taken them to change from the MFD CD/DVD Sat Nav systems and go with the current RNS510 hard drive units.
Agree it isn't future proof and see that the ipodTouch and iPhone are considerably larger. Tends to buck the trend of technology making things smaller these days
