well you guys have put me straight of the gt

it did drive like a toy didnt seem sharp like the gti.. the diesel engine isnt bad but i know everytime ill see a gti ill be envious

last night i was driving like around like from 3rd to 6th (is this ok for the engine?) journey to work is 16mile there and back and the mpg was saying 35-40 dont think it works very well as its always changing on the mfd

topped up from empty to full cost £53 at sainsburys im going to try and make it last longer then next friday

gotta stop driving it fast its hard when you get that feel and the whooosh noise frum the turbo building up plus i have the windows open lol   aaaah well you gotta enjoy things you work hard for

Laserblue....I recently improved my miles per gallon by switching off the heated seats, turning off the air con, switching off the silly big feck off bass speaker in the boot (inherited) and using the cruise control even for the shortest of straights.

MPG on same route each day went from a miserly 22mpg to just under 32mpg!!!

Still regularly get mid 20's though when i drive normally....we all feel your pain re the costs of petrol...but your lucky that you can fill up from empty for just £53! i am over sixty round here just now....bleeding scandalous.  We are near £1.20 per litre here (sorry not an accurate cost, cos it goes up all the time).

you would think that the government burglars would be able  to cap the amount of tax they take from each litre regardless of the increase in crude costs etc.

....You must drive pretty hard to only get 22 mpg in the UK!! Mine averages about 28 in the UK and the only time I've seen 22 was during a couple of weeks on fast German autobahns when I averaged 90 mph. I don't have heated seats, I very rarely use aircon, and I never ever use cruise control. I don't care how much fuel cruise control would save, I'm the one who wants to feel constantly in control of my throttle.

Absolutely I did...i have posted a few times on this seperately. 

Actually I dont drive that hard at all, its just start stop town driving really....with the occasional bit of   thrashing to remind me why I spend all this money on a monthly basis on the car.

i think people like my self who have to commute over 30 miles a day to earn a living should be able to claim tax back from our wages as thats what taxi drivers are aloud to do and thats all they are doing "making a living"

ive done 60miles since topped up and the fuel indicator has not moved from full mfd says 300miles left.. i have been changing up gear early. check my tires no less air than last week.. oils on about halfway.

the roads around were i live dont help either you gota keep breaking for potholes and makes a new rattle everyday

laser, i live in Southampton and its know as "the Traffic light Capital", or officially there are a set of lights every 300 yards on average, i still manage to stretch 26mpg just town average. She'll do 34-35 doing legal motorway journeys. Really, you must remember fuel is on the heavy rise and it doesnt matter whether you drive a diesel or petrol, the £20 and get 160 odd miles just doesnt happen anymore.Stick with the GTi, you WILL kick yourself, dont make the same mistake i did.

You could always buy a Push bike and become uber fit!!!.I have bought one and have promised myself it will get used in the summer just for trips to the shops rather then jumping in the GTi.,  but its hard to resist at the mo!.

And rumours being Diesel will be 1.50ppl by the summer....

You will miss the GTI. The GT is much less of a car. If you need more MPG, sorry get a diesel
