gti swop gt
« on: 02 May 2008, 16:58 »

im thinking of swopping my gti for the gt sport

reason is because my job is costing 50quid a week on petrol

and before you say i should drive more sensible its very hard to do so in a gti!!

but anyway the gt sport seemed all good not as tight handling as the gti and interior seems dull but the fuel would work out better for me

its a dilema im stuck in and dont really wana get rid of the gti

BIG mistake, you will be sorry

thats kinda what im thinking phil

well ive had 3 diesels before and the noise does your head in from the engine after awile

its strange because at first it was ok i was spending around 40quid a week then after i had that ecu update the whole car seemed to feel different its hard to explain and the petrol going up more dont help aswell

ill try driving it sunday style and see if i get more mpg.

anybody tried them magnetic rings you put on the engine to save fuel??

when i was interested in changing my exhaust before my local miltek dealer said id get more mpg with there exhausts.. everyone else ive asked said if you upgarde ypur exhaust to a performace one youll use even more fuel  :undecided:

is it really worth changing for the sake of ten pounds saving!!!!!!!. i went that route recently when i purchased a passat sport dsg 170 diesel. It saved me £10 a week , but i was miserable as hell know what a buzz the GTi gave me.
You must think hard but think you WILL regret it. It cost me a few grand , and wish'd now i hadnt changed to a more ecomical diesel.
But im more then happy ive ended up with something EVEN BETTER

You WILL regret it Laser. It's all well and good getting 50+ to the gallon, but that 2.0TDI lump is noisey and unrefined in either 140 or 170bhp guise!!

I have Tiguan at the moment with the new common rail 140 lump, now that is a completely different ball game. Probably as smooth as my GTI  .
(I may have to 'borrow' the RNS510 it has fitted too )

I had a GT Sport as a loan car from my dealer when my car was in for it's service, It feels like a toy car when your used to driving a Gti - The fuel costs where almost the same, saving me about 5-10 a week if that.( 70 mile round trip to work)  Only about 40 mpg on a long run v's 33-35 in my Gti

Not a swop I would recommend! =]

My last 4 cars were diesels and I wouldn't go back even if it saved me £50 a week!!

I know these may be worrying times with fuel costs going up ridiculously, but don't let the b4stards in government take away your last bit of fun. I've had my car over a year now and still look forward to driving it whenever I can. I didn't get that in the diesels I had.

As some have said on here already the difference maybe 10mpg, but you will regret the move and the cost to change will take you a looooonnnnng time to recoup, by which time you will be wanting another GTI

....I don't think that there's any doubt that the GT Sports isn't a great Golf, but whereas it's far better than any diesel Golf, it doesn't compare to the GTI.

If you were buying from new and your budget couldn't stretch to a GTI, then that's a different matter. But you've experienced the GTI and unless you are simply never an enthusiastic driver, you'll seriously miss the GTI.

I know someone who swopped their Mk5 GTI for a GT and they are happy, but they are over 60yo and weren't comfortable with the GTI's performance or mpg. I'm over 60yo too but mentally I'm still in my 30's . I don't mind growing old just as long as I don't have to grow up!

Btw, a Milltek exhaust will NOT improve your mpg!! It's a performance exhaust!!
