Wheel diameter conflicting sizes!!

I emailed someone via ebay as they were advertising some 15" wheels, and the info they gave suggested the wheels were actually 14" ie 6Jx14H2, they said they measured across the diameter and got 15" so whats going on here?

The wheels are local so I might go and look myself but surely the 14 refers to 14"? Please correct me if I'm wrong!

If it says 14 then what else can you think apart from that there 14's

never measured a wheel as I always go by the size it says on the tyre attached to it!
Maybe its coz its the actual tyre diameter thats quoted? The size of the hole.

I would "think" they are 14" and he's just got a dodgy measuring stick, but he refused my offer anyway.....!
