MK3 GTI 8v CC Lowering Suspension?! need advise plz

i have just ordered some 18" rimz for my gti i want to lower the car at the same time but dont know how low i can go without the tyres rubbing on the arches.

anyone got any ideas or already got a drop on their gti, if so how much was the drop and what springs do you recommend?

nah seriously though, iv been told that i could drop the front and the back by 40 but that might cause the wheels to rub on the arches while cornering. do you rekon 35 is enough?

That's PRETTY low on 18's!!!!

I'm on 205/40/17 tyres (17" rims) and I was reckoning on about 30mm for mine to be VERY safe, but reckon I could go a lot further than that.

What profile tyres you going for or just macking do with rubber bands?

I know Mk4's take 18's very well but I thought 17's were the reccomended max on Mk3's.

Of course they'll fit, but you'll have to get mighty low profile tyres.

Azzy - I'm with Richy - you can almost certainly fit them on - they'll be great for shows, but not too hot on performance... high speed cornering not recommended and it's gonna be a bumpy ride, even my 17's with 40 tyres are quite harsh, but then that's a cabriolet with the VW "sports" suspension.

Recommend taking the arch covers off to give yourself a bit more room for higher profile tyres, but not sure on the details as I've not done that to mine - just an idea. Ask around a bit more first!!!
