Some questions I cant find the answers too!?!
« on: 28 April 2008, 14:49 »
Hi people, I have a 1990 Mk2 Golf Driver 1.6 auto, 5 door model.
I want to fit some Ronal Turbo alloys to it.  At the moment the ride height is standard.  The wheels will be 7x15 but I have no idea what offset I need.  I can get either 28 or 37.  I will be fitting 205/50x15 toyo proxies.  I may in the future consider lowering it 40mm.  Which offset will be OK for the car both now and in the future if I lower it?  I have no intention of putting larger brakes on or anything like that.  Will I need new wheel bolts?

I also want to put a better spec interior in it.  The interior is fine at the moment but the seats don't give much support.  Do the Mk2 Gti's have recaros as standard?  How easy would it be to source a complete interior from a mk2 5 door GTi to include front and rear seats and matching doorcards and what sort of price should I be looking at for a good set?

Cheers

interior, peice of p*ss, all gti's had recaros, well, all the seats were made in the factory as far as i remember, they arent all labelled up, but if you pull away the cloth, usually have a recarod sticker somewhere...

loads of interiors going about nowadays too.

wheels - i have no idea

noble tuned - and still not fast enough!

Wheels, 37mm offset will be fine with the drop, I also would say the 27mm will be fine too, also it'll look better as the wheels will be 10mm further out on each side. Get some BMW wheel bolts from a scrapyard, they have the right "seat" for most alloys.

205/50/15 tyres are too big. you need 195/50/15's. probably cheaper aswell.

R&R recommended 195/45x15.  Same price unfortunately   They reckon that size will keep the rolling radius the same and they said to go for the et28 as that would sit nice and flush with the arch

195x45 are a little too small. http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

I got my springs from GSF. They're the progressive type which is good and I can't fault them, especially at the price.

check mytyres.co.uk and blackcircles for tyres mate.

PI are a good compromise between price and quality for lowereing springs. I had them on my mk2 16v and the ride wasonly slightly harder but the handling was much better. I think they were about £80.
