Handbrake light don't work!!!
« on: 26 April 2008, 13:34 »
So last night put my handbrake on, and noticed my light doesn't come on for it anymore! It's worked fine before, and the oil and battery light come on just fine.

Is this serious? Like a MOT failure?

Easy one. Take out the rear ashtray, underneath you'll see two screws or black plastic buts (can't remember which!) which need to be taken out. You can then lift the console around the handbrake up over the lever. You'll see the switch on the left hand side of the handbrake lever, Chances are it has just fell off and needs pushing back in or something has got jammed in it keeping it closed. Highly unlikely to be a light on the dash as they are the SMD surface mounted 3mm LEDS which never break

It looks in, I'm in the car right now so you know lol!

The clip is all the way in, and the litte switch that can tell if the handbrake is up or down goes up and down, but doesn't show any signs of the handrake light.

I'm lost!

Sounds like a dead switch to me. Has the car got any ABS issues? Does your ABS light come on for a few seconds then go off as normal?

When I bought my car the handbrake warning light didn't work, the ABS light didn't work either. Someone had cut the wiring for the ABS light and hidden it behind the fusebox and had also taken the clocks apart and flicked out the handbrake warning LED to hide the ABS faults

they dont all have SMD chip type leds as pete said so theirs a chance yours could be a standard bulb that has blown, theirs a few diff types of clocks that vairy..most the later ones do have SMD chips but theirs some with normal as i just said..

all the early type have normal bulbs and no smds, some of the later use a mixture of both but my anniversary dials are all SMD except for the indicator arrow signals

clocks easy to remove, 10 min job at the max
