strange happenings with my brakes

i have a 93 gti 8v
when i brake everything is normal at first
but i have slowed down to say 5-10 mph
they make a whiring noise and the pedal forces it self back up and becomes very stiff
can anyone help please

sounds like ABS to me, but would your early car have it fitted?

yes it has abs
any idea how i would check this
some one else said it might be the vacuum problem

thanks for your suggestion you where right i took of the abs sensors and it stopped
doing it so it looks like i will have to replace the sensors
