Panic Alarm??
« on: 23 April 2008, 18:58 »
On my last 2 cars I could hold down a button on my keyfob and it would put the alarm off - eg if I was getting mugged near my car etc.
Personally I used to use it for scaring away the neighbours cat - which has a tendancy for sitting on bonnets!

I've been fiddling with my Golf one - but all I can seem to do is put the windows up and down!  Is there any way I can manually set the alarm off from a distance?!

Also... my previous alarm gave me a flashing signal if it had been set off - i.e. 1 flash for ultrasonics, 2 flashes for door open etc.  Is there any way of telling if your Golf alarm has been set off whilst you've been away?

Standard allarm is not as sophisticated as some aftermarket systems. No panic button on standard alarm. Depressing and holding down the keyfob will close windows and sunroof. Alarm flashes and sounds when activated, then resets - no separate flash for the type of activation. Handbook says there will be a 'optical warning signals for up to 5 mins after activation' but this is not defined. The door LED flashes when alarm is set. There is an interior button on the drivers door pillar to disable the interior ultrasonics (eg chilod/dog in car). You can add a beep to setting/deactivating when you operate the keyfob though

btw holding down the key fob not only closes the windows/sunroof - it opens opens them as well. Handy for a hot summers day (as if ) to ventilate the car prior to getting in.

I opened my windows from my office window the other day using the open button as we'd just been to the burger van for lunch and I wanted to get the smell of burgers out of the car!
The only problem was that it was windy outside and within a few mins the alarm was going off.  Is there a way to turn off the ultrasonics remotely?

Check this out, it looks like "them over the other side of the pond" get a panic button on their GTI's?

Mind you, every other person owns a handgun.

AFAIK, only via the manual switch in the car.

Stop eating burgers and get some exercise at lunchtime

While you're out there, I'll have one with onions and ketchup

I believe there is... behind the drivers seat and door, there is a little button on the side (under the window, near the seat belt) has alike a ))) icon, someone said its to turn that off.

This only works for a single activation - defaults back to normal interior coverage when you next switch the alarm off (you need to do this to open the windows remotely).
