what oil to use after oil change

im gonna be changing the oil soon as i had an oil leak and had to keep topping it up with new oil. now that the leaks has stopped what type of oil do i need. in the halfords book it says to use 10w/40 but a garage told me to use full mineral oil(and i over heard the kid working in the shop tell a woman that oil is oil and it dont matter which u use, which is wrong)

i was told by a few to pop to the VW dealer and get some from there, i forget the name but if you go in and say your after some oil, and you have a mk2 golf GTi or whatever they will sort you, mine cost under £20, you will probably be given the same as i was id imagine.

There's 3 types, fully synth, semi synth and fully mineral. 95% of what you'll see is semi synth, which is perfect. Oil most certainly is not all the same, but for old golfs there's no need for anything fancy and regularly changed oil of the right viscosity is all you need to worry about.

Use Synta Silver. GSF used to do it, but my local one doesn't anymore. Got my last lot from the VW dealers - about £20 for 5 litres.

yeah i think mine was about that too, cant be bad if the dealers use it
