throw some light on this! random white smoke??
« on: 22 April 2008, 16:43 »
'90 8v digi gti with more than 235k on the clock.

cutting to the chase....

i saw a puff of white smoke whilst reverse parking the car earlier, this was after a 20 mile drive. got out and sure enough there was white smoke coming from the exhaust. it was hardly bellowing out, more similar to when you first drive the car on a cold morning. it didnt smell like coolant. there were no puddles etc, roads are completely dry.

i thought it was HGF but i lost no amount of water, and it hasnt done it since!

as i'd stopped at a supermarket for 10 mins prior to this stop, the engine wasnt overly hot, e.g. oil temp was only 82, water temp needle 1/4 way up. engine sounded normal.

HG was replaced 30k miles ago.

ideas?  :undecided:

As long as it isnt using oil or water I wouldnt be over worried, I know you've had the HG done but its still an old car !

Have you got any oil marks around any of the plugs mate, look straight at the head at each HT lead and see if there is any oil around there.
