First thing that should be checked before you buy!

ABS light problem can be expensive but as it hasn't happened to me I don't know.

Airbag one you can check if the connection is ok, drop the lower part of the steering colomn cover panel to check the connection!

it will not rev over 5000 revs
 This could be a timing problem

first things first get it linked up to vag com - this will tell you if its just an abs sensor that isn't working which it normally is so shouldn't be expensive you can buy them for about £12 and fit them yourself.

Airbag light will also come up with vag com, you can try just deleting the fault codes and seeing if it comes back - sometimes this works.

not much point revving an 8v past 5k anyway so i would just leave it.....  (jokes!!!!)

you are quite right there like I said got it yesterday adn done a 100 mile round trip to Wolverhampton and back and never even got close to 5000 revs even doing 80mph on the motorway. Think the only time you would rev that high is in first gear at the traffic lights lol

The intemediate shaft is probably out a tooth. or some one has fiddled with the distributor.  either way its easy enough to sort...  I wouldnt leave it like that as it could cause problems if the timing is out.  Either gunna detonate or burn exhaust valves  :smiley:

I had the exact problem with the rev limiter kicking in at 5000rpm. I fixed it by putting the distributor in properly. The rotor arm has to be put in at a certain position when the engine is at tdc. The muppet who put the distributor in before me had simply done it wrong. Here's an image of it;
