Sd card with "Itunes"
« on: 19 April 2008, 18:38 »
Hi Guys, after your advice on fuel consumption etc, I fianlly picked up my new GTI on Thursday.

I am just playing with all the "gadjets" and want to download some tracks onto the hard drive of the sat nav/head unit thingy.

One problem...I run Itunes on my home PC and cant seem to burn tracks onto an SD card in an MP3 format. (I gather this is the only way that I can down-load  into the HD...ie not directly from a CD)

I've read a few "walk arounds "on t'inetenet that tell me how to convert Itunes ito MP3 but they are all very long and require hours of CD burning.

Have any pf you guys come up with a fantastically simple solution.

PS, sorry if there is something really obvious that I have missed...I only picked her up on Friday so have not even read the manual properly...been too busy driving.

By the way.
'08 straight from the factory, Peal black, sat nav, dsg, Monza ii's and a couple of other bits and bobs.

Also...the standard sound system is pretty crap..is there a good after market solution...one that does not require me to fill my boot with amps and crap...just looking for a decent speaker upgrade really?

Cheers

Harry

There was a recent thread on here about IPODS and one of the posts gave a website link which contains software that allows you to download the entire contents of your IPOD onto your PC in MP3 format. You'll have to search for it yourself though unless someone still has the linky.

There is a program which can convert mp4 (I Tunes format) tracks to mp3 (your required) format. I do not have the name to hand, but if you do a google on mp4 to mp3 converter, which I will do shortly, then you should get sorted. I think the program lets you have a free trial but it has limitations on the free version.

Have a look here, not sure how good or simple this utility is but it's worth a try. The problem is in the I tunes settings, for future reference you need to change the file format in which I Tunes converts the CD tracks to.

PM me if you need any help.

will these programmes work on songs that have Digital Rights Management (DRM) embedded into them?

Also if you have the original CD's then you can convert them to MP3 format directly using something other than iTunes.

Not sure bour the DRM question. MP3 file format has no DRM and I Tunes can be used, but you need to tell it to convert your music into MP3 format and not Apples MP4 code.

there are "methods" of procuring MP3 files off the t'internet but the legalities are dubious to say the least and I would not condone such methods. Support artists and purchase the music. I still prefer to buy CDs but I am old and stuck in my ways.

I have used Super C, the interface is a bit clunky but it will convert just about any audio/video format to MP3 or MPEG

It will also do batch jobs of multiple files.

Hi... I'm a bit of an iTunes boffing....
If you want to convert tunes down loaded from Apple/Itunes that you have bought you'll need a converting program that will copy the tracks but without the DRM.
If you have imported your own tunes via cd's then all you have to do is go into Edit / Preferences / Advanced /Importing and change the 'import using' to MP3 Encoder and setting to at least 128Kbps, I would go for 192Kbps cos it sounds better.
Then come out of that and go to your Library / Music and select the tracks to convert. Once selected right click and select 'Convert to MP3'
and sit back and wait....
after it's converted them you can delete the original one and just leave the MP3 version.....
Also from now on when you insert a cd it will auto convert to MP3 without asking....

Hope this helps..
