Welcome to the forum Dave,

Most extended warranties aren't worth the money IMO. They only tend to cover major mechanicals (although this is comforting), but not anything else. VW's extended warranty is similar and even more expensive. Did you buy from a dealer? If so I thought that you would get 12 months warranty anyway?

Funny this, just received an extended warranty pack through from VW.

For a GTI size engine ie 2000cc upto 15K miles a year £409 and Unlimited miles a year £439 (surprisingly close)

Covers all major components/suspension/electricals/braking parts/airbags/cats etc  with exclusions on wear and tear items/ wheels (Yeah guessed that with Monzas)/tyres/battery/exhausts (except cat)bulbs/fuses/trims/coolant hoses/discs/pads/clutch plates & bearing and wiring

Includes roadside recovery/repair  and in classic VW fashion gets totally confusing over European travel, but would appear to cover roadside assistance/recovery/onward jorney and accomodation, but very confusing in the text.

Overall, seems more comprehensive than outside aftermarket warranties,   but the proof is in the eating

So anyone got one and does it work?

I have been looking in to this actually. Warranty Direct have quoted me £240 for 12 months extended warranty. This includes everything apart from disks / pads and bodywork. Also includes break down cover  if the car breaks down from a failed warranty part. I can go to any dealer I like VW or Ferrari.

I thougt this was quite resonable considering VW quoted me £600.

Im thinking about it, DSG or engine failiuer could be very expensive which I cannot afford!

Damo  Had a warranty Direct policy , all dealers including franchised, on a 5 series, the 2 things I needed to claim for they knocked back.  PDC sensors and the controller for the mileage/computer readout.

So my inclusive policy at £350 cost me another £950 in repairs I paid myself!!

Check the small print
