Few engine niggles?
« on: 18 April 2008, 09:24 »
Got my car remapped around 3 wks ago, and have noticed a high pitched whining noise when i accelerate, and it goes away when i decelerate, almost like a police siren but nowhere near as loud!  Reckon this has anything to do with the remap?

Also noticed today the smell of diesel when i was sitting stationary in traffic.  Definitely not from other cars as i smelt it when i was stationary in the car park with no other cars around me!

Any ideas?

ok hi and welcome, but plz can you be abit more specific? what model car is it?  id be worried if you have a GTi with a diesel smell for starters!
If this smell has just started, and this high pitch whine has started, id be back on the phone to the re-mappers straight away. How old is the Car?? under vw warranty??

It's a 2005 GT TDi, remapped from 140bhp to 175bhp.

Ta!

Possible fuel pump or injector problem by what you describe. What sort of mileage has the car done?

Maybe they got the fueling wrong when they did the map. Might be an idea to take it back to them as your first point of call. Hopefully a simple fix.

have been told by them that the remap would not cause the problem but could exaggerate it.  Have been told by them to get to a garage and have it checked out and to let them know of any fault code that appears.  Says that no fuel passes through the turbo, as the whining noise may be hte turbo

Air and oil only for the turbo. Your fuel pump may of been on its way out and the extra work has pushed it over the edge.

High pitched whining most likely the turbo - you hardly hear it when running standard boost pressure.

The smell - had you just pulled into the carpark? Been on a bit of a lively run? Unburned fuel in the exhaust maybe.

As above, you sure its not just the turbo spinning up, it can sound louder after a remap
