« on: 15 April 2008, 16:02 »
Hi guys as the title what do think of this gti? its marked up on a vw dealer at £14,990 5 door, 18" monza's and dsg with paddle shift but no MFSW on a 05 plate with 32k on the clock. I have already driven it and everything ok but unsure if its reasonably priced or over the top, any thoughts and oppinions much appreciated

Price seems ok.  It's not a bargain but it's not a rip off.

I reckon that there is some meat on the deal for you.

Work up from £14k (a bit cheeky I know!) and only go up verrrry slowly as they come back with their compromise price.

Do you have a trade in? if not, then haggle even harder

Yeah, Blue Graphite looks good.  It doesn't stand out like the others, but it's nice all the same.

Nice colour and I dont think the price sounds too bad for a DSG car - so anymore you can haggle of would be a bonus, or maybe a free service or something .. the 40k is a big one and the DSG oil will need changin also - anything from £375 - £450 for the whole shabang.

Did the picture give it away, Parkway always seem to take their in the same place next to the grey building - a common sight on Pride Park.

Looks a reasonable deal to me for a DSG, assuming the bodywork and alloys are mint

It's got the armrest too   ... checkout any other optional extras

My thoughts are

1. Check the 18" Monzas out thoroughly for white worms, scuffs etc. and that they are indeed genuine VW (BBS) alloys.  (VW part no & BBS stamped on rear face of wheel)

2. Check whether the car is UK dealer supplied or an import ... ask to see the PDI stamp in the service book.

3.  Checkout remaining warranty, if any, and haggle for an extended VW warranty for as long as possible (at least a year).  Personally I would'nt fancy having any DSG issues / problems out of warranty.

4.  Can't see paddleshifts in the photo ?   they must be hiding

Cant see the paddles either - but I trust you have seen them!

At least from a dealer you will get some warranty.  As for problems with the DSG when out of warranty .. what can you do except hope you dont have any problems.  I know there have been the odd horror story but there must be loads of these boxes on the road now and is it really worth £500 a year to have VW cover it.. ? fingers crossed for goodwill  :undecided:
