This is not the one that we can change and set ourselves. I am based in Dubai UAE and have a default speed warning that goes off at 120km/h. Is there anyway to disable this?

Sounds like a country-specific thing to me. Is there a legal requirement for that?

Only speed warning I know of in the UK is the one you can set yourself ...

Sorry.

Hi Beavc

I'm also in Dubai!  It's a bit of a pain over here and I've heard worrying things like if you get a shunt and the police find out you've had the beeper removed you're in trouble...

I think the dealership can do it for you - I asked when I picked my GTI up and they said it could be done.  It just has to be switched back on when you get the car MOT'ed after a couple of years i think...

Been on a track day with the Golf yet?  21st April in the evening is the next one at the Autodrome if you're interested - it's always good to have another Golf to play with on track!

You may be able to turn this off with Vag Com, along with many other tweaks. Just download the software, install it on a laptop, plug the special cable into your cars on board diagnostic port and tweak away!

http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/index.html

It also had a fault diagnostic feature, its all very user friendly.

I don't think it's a VAG COM tweak.  It's a unique feature to the Dubai market which gives you a lights on warning buzzer sound whenever you go over 120km/h.  Get's on your tits big time, let me tell you!!!!  All manufacturers have to have it to varying degrees over here (Toyotas beep about 5 times and then stop, but you have an annoying flashing speedo light on the dashboard until you slow back down under 120 again) - I don't know why but no Porsches have it over here - the stealer will do the honours and pull the right wire out...

I just pump up the stereo and have the roof open - generally gets rid of the annoyance...

I'd bet you can change it with Vag Com, change the country code to another location? How else do you think the dealer would do it, they use the VAG 5051 machine, it does a similar thing to Vag Com  :smug:

What colour have you got, and where are you in Dubai?

Only done a couple of trackdays so far.  On the first (evening session on the club circuit) there was a silver evo on track, plus there were 4 GTIs and the usual Porsches and BMW M's - good fun.  I only put the Golf on track after it had 7000km on the clock, and it was running great.  After two visits the front right is looking a bit worse for wear though - need to get some track wheels and tyres!

Have you seen www.tuningflavour.com ?  Al Quoz based tuner with lots of VW goodies.  My Golf is currently my daily driver but I think I might be spending a few dirhams down there to make into a track car in a couple of years or so....

Not been there...hmmm will probably make a trip down next week...any other places to get stuff?

Tuning Flavour do chip tuning - 6500AED for an extra 50bhp.  There are a couple of other places about that do it as well - 4000AED is the best i can find from three places:  through an independent chip tuner who's been in the trade for 15 years, Yellowhat in Times Square on SZ Road, and a UAE dealer that ships in Bluefin (both giving an extra 50BHP).  I'm going for the independent guy, I think...

There are a couple of companies listed in the back of Autocar magazine, next time you're in an Emarat station...
