what is this 4
« on: 14 April 2008, 22:45 »
Just a quicky... Done a gearbox oil change the other day. Not the hardest thing to do i know but id had a smoke (as u do) and i think i made a mistake.

On top of the gearbox next to the normal oil filler bolt is a hex shape srew-in fixing with a plug in it 'mines green but ive seen a few yellow ones'.

I put about half a litre in before realising 'sh!t wrong whole' it came gushing out of of the bottem where the gearbox meets the engine.

Since then my mk2's got a funny sort of scratching noise when i put the right foot down.

So i think you know what your all gonna say apart from your a twit, you silly asswhole or what the hell were you thinking dip sh!t have you got anything else to say about my little problem.

thanx much.......

Do you mean the flywheel viewing hole?  Mines a round green screw-in plug with a hexagon shaped hole in the middle of it, right on top of the gearbox, underneath the distributor.

If its that hole you've poured oil into, I'm afraid you've prob got oil on your clutch.

yep youve put the fluid in the wrong hole  (sorry)

pull the speedo cable off and fill the oil through that.

Suprised your car still moves forward. might burn off after a few miles. you may be lucky

I have had a few cars in in the past years with this problem.  If its contaminated the clutch disk you will be needing a new clutch.

Dump a load of brake and clutch cleaner down there ASAP.

yes conkers thats the one by the sounds of it the fly wheel veiwing whole.
The car is running fine i had a second gear crunch anyway i changed the oil for that perpose to see if thats the problem.
So ive done the oil (and made a meal of it) ive also changed to a weighted gear link so i geuss the only thing left is a dodgey sycro.

Thanx alot for all your help lads i thought i was gonna get slagged of for being an ass lol but it turned out good.
As for the car it looked like all the oil just went straight through so hopefully im lucky and the cluth does explode out of the bonnet.

1 more thing im after an 8v gearbox for my 90 digi so if anyone lives near southampton with a good working 1 im in need of 1 badly got cash waiting and time to burn so send me message....
And if anyone has a gearbox diagram or knows someone who has id like to get one showing how to strip them down so i can play about with my old 1

BIG thanx......dave

Dont worry about asking questions mate, we wont learn much if we dont ! Just dont come on here and say that it took you ages to do an oil change when you pour the new stuff down the dipstick tube
