Gearbox - rod with spring?

Everyone see that big rod sticking out the top of the box? Well I was on the blower to a mate was fiddling around with bits as I was changing the release bearing and this rod came out and i can't get in back in again. Please can someone tell me whether or not i have screwed my box up or is there some release i need to press to get it back in.

I've looked in the Haynes at it says, "have the unit overhauled by a specialist repairer" which is of no use

yeh man tried a few things, dont wana force it incase i completely bugger the box

just thought i'd add that bentley manuel is the most comprehensive guide i have ever come across, everyone with a mk2 should download ii, save it, do whatever..its awesome!

but doesnt help me with my situation

where do i download the bentley manual? or is it all that on the site? ive bookmarked it already

the bentley manual is actually a book like the haynes( albeit 10x the size!) but some clever sausage is hosting it on the web.dunno if you can download it or anything, as im not really clued up on computers.lol

theres one on e bay at the moment. well worth buying imo!
