Breather Regulator Valve on Cam Cover
« on: 17 April 2004, 09:08 »
Can anyone tell me how the crankcase pressure regulating valve that's stuck on the top of my 8V is supposed to work? I took mine off the other day to check if the breathing system is blocked (blue smoke at idle) and it was full of oil deposits. After flushing it out and shaking it about a bit I can hear something moving inside. Would like to take it apart but it doesn't look like it's been designed for dissassembly.

Cheers Max

its basically got a rubber valve type arrangement inside it on a spring, and 2 holes to let air in and out, over time the rubber seal will perish but i wouldnt worry to much about it. you can get them from vag but they are about 15quid. i would only bother chging it if it is cracked/leaking/blocked.

when you take this off have alook through the hole in the rocker cover you should see mesh if this is covered in gunge than i would get a new rocker cover gasket and take the rocker cover off and give it a clean........
as if this is blocked then it will allow pressure to build up and cause oil leaks and valve seal blow by!

also get some carb / injection intake cleaner..... its same stuff as 10k boost if you ve heard of that.......

get some of this and it should come with a straw, undo the pipe leading from the regulator thing to the front of the throttle and then put the straw in the pipe and slide it back on the regulator start the engine and spray, at the same time turn the throttle with your other hand other wise the engine will stall.....
this will clean out your throttle and idle screw and throttlw air bypass hole......! also also inside the inlet manifold and also it will clean your inlet valves!

it should look simlar to this
