Hi,

My 8v has had a tiny leak around the oil cooler for a while but today it decided to let it all out and spill oil everywhere. I've heard that you can take the oil cooler out, reattach the filter, and screw the two water pipes (originally going into the cooler) back together. I know its not ideal running the car without an oil cooler, but is this a viable solution?

Even so, I have no tools or a ramp so would need someone/a garage to help me out. Anyone know of anywhere decent in the Portsmouth area?

Thanks,

Jerry

Its fine to temporarily run the engine without an oil cooler IIRC. Do you mean its leaking "around" the edge of the cooler or that its leaking inside it? If its the former, then a bypass won't help much. If its the later then you will also need to plug the water entry points on the cooler (which will eventually fill with oil).

To be honest, I would invest in some tools and start getting your hands dirty!!

Can reccomend these guys, i know it's the other side of the water from Pompey but best i can do.

They've done a fair bit of major work for me and certainly aren't cowboys.

Thanks for the help guys. Ended up phoning the AA and with his tools and/or knowhow, its all done. Engine is now running with no oil cooler, but should be ok till I sort my life out and fix it. Sweet.

Or there is an Eastern European guy a couple of doors down from them who is pretty cheap and seems to know everything about every car! Think his name is Denvil or something....
