Fuel pump issues

Ok, without wanting to make anybody panic, was over at Awesome yesterday chatting to Jim about the new APR fuel pump and he raised a few concerns regarding the fuel pump on the Tfsi engine.
Basically the fuel pump runs off the end of the camshaft as we know, the plunger from the pump sits in a bucket which runs directly onto the camshaft, these buckets have been showing premature wear which can and has lead to damage to the camshaft. He has seen this problem on cars with as little as 18000miles on them, in fact on their demo car, which has about 25k on it I think, the bucket has worn through damaging the camshaft which now needs replacing.
This is something you need to keep on eye me thinks, wonder if VW will have a recall or inspection?

Did Jim say anything as to whether the APR pump rectifys this and so makes it a fit and forget mod?

No, the bucket isn't actually part of the pump its a seperate item. The bucket will be checked when the new pump is fitted and replaced if necessary, there about 16quid.
Hopefully VW will bring out an updated item thats a bit harder wearing

Any idea if this effects all model years?
Do we have to get it checked regularly then?
I would hate to get a remap , then need a new camshaft and vw refuse to do it under warranty (assuming they could prove)

Engine wear on their demo car producing 170bhp more than its supposed to? shocking!

VW America have had a tech bulletin out for quite some time (not sure on UK) about CAM wear, the original ones were one piece and the newer and harder ones are two piece.

Some people say it is made worse by the fitting of an APR/KMD/Autotech fuel pump but failures are equally as common on the OEM pumps as well.

I am running an Autotech Pump so I'll be inspecting mine and another car this week I expect.  I bought a spare follower just in case which is around £20.

Technical Background
Excessive wear of intake camshaft lobe that drives the high pressure fuel pump. The wear limits maximum pump piston lift, causing fuel rail pressure fluctuations. The wear on the camshaft lobe can also lead to wear on the base of the high pressure fuel pump cam follower.

Production Solution
Increase surface hardening of camshaft lobe for the high pressure fuel pump
Improved intake camshafts have Part No. 06F109101B.

Maps good cheers John, feels really strong in the midrange and pulls really well at the top.
Regular checks are a must IMO, by the way Awesome are getting their car fixed under warranty by VW
