Key Issue (Re-visited!)

I started a topic a couple of weeks ago about my main key opening the car but also setting off the alarm at the same time.  Well I took the car into VW last weekend and they told me it was the battery and charged me for the battery and for 0.20 hours labour (£18 in total).  Fair enough I thought even though I had tried another battery before I had called them adn this hadn't resolved the issue.

So yesterday - a full four days since I got this problem 'solved' the key has stopped working again!!  I booked the car in for tomorrow morning to get this looked at again.

My question is surely as this appears to not be a battery problem I can get my money back for the initial wrong diagnosis?

Of course! You want the money back for the labour you wrongly paid for and ideally the money back for the battery too, although might be more difficult to insist on.

how old was the key? you have an ed30 so cant be that old? i would have said i wasnt paying for their sh!tty batterys anyway as it shouldnt have gone!

i would DEFO say you want your money back, they charged you for something which didnt work. they were wrong. its more than the batter if you have both tried one now!!

Only had the car 6 months and don't expect a key battery to run down that quick - it is not like I am sitting there locking and unlocking the car!!!

I am going to demand at least the labour back and expect the next new battery to be free too.  Cost me as much in petrol going back there twice in a week!!!

i had mine sinse july 07 and battery is perfectly fine... :S

you should also state the fact its costing you so much going there and back because they didnt get it right the first time.

so...let me get this right...you spend over £20k (presumably) on a car...and a couple of months later the key stops working, they then charge you to replace a battery, with labour costs AND this doesnt fix it?

I guess they see the batteries as a consumable item and not one that would be dealt with under warranty or guarantee.

I think the fact that it failed so soon is abnormal and as a result would indicate an actual fault on the keyfob ? if so, you should get all previously paid monies refunded. Even then, paying in the first place just seems wrong too.

Gotta love dealers eh? i tried to book mine in to get the loose screw (see other post) and they say...of course if its not covered under warranty you will be charged for the labour it will be £65 per hour! with a one hour minimum!! tossers!

They do class the battery as a consumable thus I was charged for it and labour.

I will definetly be seeking re-imbursment tomorrow as they have not resolved the problem.

I will let you know how I get on.

I'd be banging on their doors if I were you. No-one should have to pay for something that they didn't need in the first place.

OK that is me back from the dealers - I got a new key fob (under warranty) and they are going to let me know on Monday how to claim my money back for the first botched job.

All in all happy enough but could have done without the two visits
