Paint colour match!
« on: 11 April 2008, 08:50 »
Hi,

I'm going to be spraying a new bumpers using cans, I've heard that halford can are a bit of a crap colour match in general. Does anyone know of  a good brand of cans to use for a decent colour match?

Any advice on getting the best finish I can would also be appreciated.

Thanks
Edd

That's going to depend on what colour it is, some have lots of variants and because of that you'll struggle to get a match ;)

i dont really use cans anymore as i got an air compressor but if you want a real good finsh, im sure you'd be able to get them sprayed pucker for £100. no paint cans, no runs, no effort, and a real nice finsh. i've learnt the hard way somethings are best left to pros, unless you are already a dab hand with can :)

Rattle cans can be ordered through your local VW dealer and colour matched to your Vin/Reg number. If it's metallic then the match will be perfect, if not youmay have problems with the rest of the car having faded over time.

your local paint supply can colour match by eye/paintcode. Better service and price

Aye that very true right until you ask for magic black as an example, there are dozens of variants list for this colour, more red more blue more silver more gold etc etc.

Worth pointing out too that you will need to use an etching primer on bump etc. ;)
