sorry for the crappy question, but I'm sure I'm not alone......

Does anyone's '20V TURBO' on their engine bay cover look tatty and let the whole bay down?? Anyone got a clever way of sharpening it up - can only think of covering it in masking tape, painfully going round it with a craft knife to take the tape off the numbers and letters and then spraying it up  ???

i agree they are a bit naff, but i have seen some painted the same colour as the car which looked ok..

yeah good idea just to spruse it up a bit, ive got a massive cover on my 20v, but its coming off tomorrow as with it on the oil filler extension suffers from condensation (eggy mayonasye type stuff in filler cap) so removing and running normal (with out cover) to avoid this , mk4s commonly suffer fron condensation probs in filler caps due to all the plastic!!!!

take the cover off and then polish it up with some autosol, it'll take ages but on the turbo model the engine looks better without the cover on it.

that mayonaise is from running lots of short journeys surely? the water in th eoil has insufficient time to evaporate and emulsifies into that mayonanise crap.

kniterider what do you mean about the problems with the plastic? the oil filler cap is sealed as is the dipstick?

thanks for the replies, but sorry guys don't think I made myself too clear in my original email....Autoglym on the black plastic great, but it was more the white writing itself i.e. '20V - TURBO' that looks grim. Will Autoglym freshen this up white again  ???, as it looks more like paint worn off than just being grubby  :-\.

Calling all Golf owners with cleaning OCD  ;D
