first the drivers door speaker doesnt work, just wanted to know if this was common?
and how easy would it be to fix or replace?
and secondly the middlescreen on the dash, how do i activaate the top bit so it shows the menus etc there?

Not to sure about the speaker in the drivers door but you need the highline comp to access the upper screen....if you have the MFSW you press the button that looks something like for dashes, one under the other

If you have midline the clocks look like this

The line through the middle indicates it is only a midline.

If you have highline i looks like this


The GTI dials are a bit recessed but the point is shown in the pictures.
I think the worst time to have a heart attack is during a game of charades. Especially if your teammates are bad guessers.

whats the highline comp?
Its an optional extra, if it wasn't specced you dont have it and dont have access to the upper screen. It allows you to change lights/locking settings etc.

ok thanks, i thought it maybe something like that!  does anyone know how to remove the door speaker or test to see if it the wiring causing the problem?
