oooh oooh oooh have been dying to tell someone about my encounter with an ST yesterday evening.. thought this might be the best place for it.

I over took a black ST on the way home yesterday, as I was in a little bit of a rush. Obviously the ST owner didnt like this one bit.. so decided he was going to start driving like a tit. Pulling out then in.. really giving it some very close to my bumper. I let him get on with it to start with... but after a while it was getting a bit silly as there was no way he could get past (and its not like I was going to let him either). Anyway as we approached a set of lights (2 lanes) there is a very short stretch before a second set of lights. The right lane is for going right only. Whilst the left lane goes straight on.. and the lights are usually green.

As I approached the lights there was a crappy metro in the left lane so I jumped over to the right (knowing I would be able to beat him). Mr ST decided this would be his opportunity to really give it some. So as the lights changed to green, I decided I would sit tight for a couple of seconds.. just enough to let Mr Metro get a nice head start. After a few seconds, I floored it, and looked back to see the guy driving the ST with his jaw hanging open as I simply left him for dust. He looked to be trying his hardest to keep up but I would say that after a space of 100m he was about 4car lengths behind!! I obviously made it infront of the Metro to continue my journey home. Mr ST was probably sat behind Mr Metro for the next 2 miles (secretly wishing he had saved up a little more to get himself a VW )

Or that... either way he would have wished his ST had a little more power and AWD to get the power down (tbh it was quite wet)

R32UK,

To be fair (and I did until very recently own an ED30  so I am not biased towards Ford at all!), the argument/discussion here is whether the ST @ £13.5k is a good deal, comparing it with your £23 -26k 4WD R32 is not really fair is it

All I would say is that you get what you pay for (VW oooze quality) but in the current climate, resale values are shocking, even on GTIs (ED30 inc!).  So I reckon at 13k the ST is a bargin

53 GT TDI 130 - Sold
07 GTI Ed30, 3dr, Black pearl now sold! :(

Lets just say at that price even I would be tempted to get one  Think that says it all really

I'm a big fan of the ST, it was the main rival for the gti when i bought it a couple of years back.  It didnt quite do enough for me, i could get one for 15k brand new as opposed to the golf where there was a big waiting list and no discount.  In the end i decided stick with what i had or buy what i really wanted, so a GTI it was.  After seeing the fuel consumption, im rather glad i gave it a miss

Well she decided against the Focus ST as the runnning costs didn't look like being any cheaper than the 3.2 Audi, so whilst it was a brand new car vs a used one it wasn't meeting the brief.

She took a test drive in the Fiesta ST and suffice to say she was very unimpressed with the cabin quality. Plus the dealer offered her a shocking part ex price £3k below parkers part ex price so she's not going with either of them for now.
