Wo wow wo!!!!!
I get the impression from this thread that people are suggesting that the Fiesta ST or the Focus ST-3 is almost up there with the GTI

Don't be silly...

Well I've never driven either, though I did leave a Fiesta ST for dust this morning.

I do think a white Focus with blue side stripes would look pretty cool though.

It was the DSG, Tax, Fuel and boot for the dog that made me choose the Golf, not particularly its appearance, nor can I say have I been that impressed with its handling during my first few weeks of ownership. Overall though its a good package.

It was the same for my mate.  The boot for his dog is redundant now she's stopped nagging him and started doing his ironing.  He lets her sit in the front now.

Just to clarify, wasn't looking to start an ST vs GTI thread.

If she was being offered a Brand new GTi for £13.5K it would be a no brainer she'd go for it and thats the point, even though she's being offered it at 65% of list price she and I are both unsure she should go for it.

I think that in itself highlights what a better overall proposition the GTI is, but when you look at the Focus ST deal in the context of this deal its a hell of a car for £13.5K.

Whilst my dog is 7 stone and 5ft, he still really is just a dog. I was tempted to get another 3 Series Coupe, but couldn't bear the thought of his muddy paws all over the carpet and leather seats. So I knew I needed a hatchback.

Quite interested to see what this Mitsubishi Evo Hatchback thing is going to turn out like.

I have to say when I test drove the Focus ST I was really impressed. The only reason I didn't buy one is cause I got a good deal on the GTI even though the ST was quite a bit cheaper.

I would recommend the ST to anyone.

ST would be worth looking at accept for very high fuel costs and shocking depreciation values.Ok if your leasing but not worth if its your own hard earned.

Fuel consumption was rubbish (200-220 for the tank) but the car itself was very nice (fun fun to drive and listen to) - 13.5k seems a decent price (thats about £6k below list?) i managed to shop around on the internet and get a new non import ST-2 for £16.5 just over 2 years ago.
Depreciation was high when i went to sell it last year, also is it about time a new shape Focus came out? would that hurt the value of buying the current shape now?

I have an ST as my current car, its fantastic, very quick, very well built, 5 cylinder sounds great and would recommend it to anyone.. but as with any performance car the mpg is low.. mine shows average of 21.. but who cares? you don’t buy one to be frugal.

this is probably i bit controversial but i test drove allot of cars including the new golf but still chose this..

for 13.5k its a right deal!
