Any previous Focus ST owners
« on: 09 April 2008, 21:54 »
Hey guys a bit random I know, but the ex is ready to get rid of her Audi A3 3.2 Quattro DSG as its an 03 plate with 60K on the clock. Plus the fuel and taxman are really beginning to ruin the fun factor.

Well her dad works for Ford and has come home with two interesting proposals for her -

Brand new Fiesta ST for £9.5K or a brand new Focus ST-3 for £13.5K.

The Fiesta was her initial choice as she thought much cheaper insurance, tax and fuel plus cheap price.

However running it through the Fords finance calculator the Focus ST is just £20 per month cheaper.
Checking with the DVLA the Focus has a CO2 rating of 224g meaning its £205 per year in tax. Making the Focus it a bit more attractive.

So I was wondering if any previous Fiesta or Focus ST owners could give me a bit of detail about their previous experiences and in particular advise if the Focus' fuel consumption is really as bad as I've heard.

Thanks in advance.

i had one, road tax is £210, next year it will be £300 , i never had a single problem with my ST, never let me down once, the MPG is quite shocking though, and is as bad as you have heard  :embarassed:

hello mate
i had a st2 before my gti and i miss it. it is an amazing car although the fuel economy is really bad-i averaged about 220 miles to a tank but with the gti i average about 270 miles. it sticks like u wouldnt believe and it sounds so amazing whne u put ur foot down and hear that turbo kick in. even the missus misses that. inside it cant compete with the gti but the recaros are better than the gti. a great car. if u get one u wont regret it.

i would say the mpg on the 3.2 quattro will be better than the ST , as above though they do sound very nice

Well the 3.2 averages low twenties.

Cruising at 80 on the motorway I could never get it over 25mpg, though she reckons she see's it a little higher than that.

She doesn't do mega mileage about a 20 mile round trip to work each day and thats mainly A roads, but as her sisters just had a baby she wants to drive back to Swansea from Leamington more regular so its that journey she really wants to get cheaper.

my ST averaged 19 mpg , motorways at 80 would be about 25 ish, on a long efficient drive (no stop/ starts or traffic etc) i could hit 30 if i was very lucky, its deffo not a cheaper option imo

Wo wow wo!!!!!
I get the impression from this thread that people are suggesting that the Fiesta ST or the Focus ST-3 is almost up there with the GTI

thanks 182_Blue, there the figures I suspected and it was that and the lack of a DSG system that stopped me considering one when I got the Golf.

But that price is very tempting at £7K below list.
