i dont understand ?, what does "years to come matter" ?, i paid no more than a normal GTI what does it matter what it sells for in the future ?, also if you sell to a dealer there always going to say its worth no more (or very little) than a normal GTi, a car is worth what someone will pay for it and if in 2 years time for instance someone wants an edition 30 they may or may not pay a premium for it, i personally did not want a GTI and wanted a ed30, and if this was a few years down the line i would have paid a premium to get the better car IMO of course

An honest mistake to build 800more cars than originally planned and announced?!?

That nearly a 50% overrun!!!

It doesn't really bother me whether they overmade. It bothers me that they can say it was a mistake

I can't really see that theextra production will affect residuals, just the image of the Edition 30 being a 1500 ltd edition run.

As a potential buyer of a Gti in the future.. I would have to say that a car that is part of a limited run of 1500 does sound slightly more appealing! However if you were looking to buy a ED30 and there were loads for sale... its natural that the price you end up paying will be a little lower. The opposite would definately true if there were only a few listed for sale... its all down to supply and demand. Who knows how many of them are still on the production line??

But the release of the Pirrelli edition certainly means the Ed30 will not be as exclusive as once originally though.. A shame really as VW seems to (as usual) be more interested in just flooding the market and keeping their pockets lined.

It amazes me that people are that bothered.  Who buys a car as an investment anyway?  It's still a limited edition, regardless of numbers.  And if people really want to buy something exclusive, then don't buy a Volkswagen.

Never been a fan of Pirelli tyres, surely if you have a Pirelli GTI you'd look stupid putting anything other than Pirelli boots on it?????

As a limited edition (there I go again, using the word edition), the ed30 according to my mate in the trade will always be far more in demand than the Pirelli version, I guess time will tell.

All I know is, the ed30 with Bluefin is an awesome car and I would time and time again buy the ed30 over the Pirelli GTI.

ps, the ironic thing is posts like this really dont help the situation, and only serves to draw peoples attention to it, in theory your devaluing your own car LOL

websites do now ask for what extra's are fitted, so i have to disagree with you on this one, and also having recently sold an 05 high spec GTi for £17500, whereas normal condition ones sell for a few grand less. hense why vw resale prices with options vary due to ammount of options on the car. You have to be very silly to chop your GTi for £14k only for the dealer to resale on for £19k because its loaded with extra bits. So extras DO count but dealers wont admit that. More £ in their pocket.

What web site are those then, i'll tell you which ones, the ones you as a consumer have to pay for.

Take it from someone who does this for a living, if you buy a car as a standard car lets say £ 20k, and you put on that car leather £ 1800, dvd nav £ 1800, That now makes the car value £ 23600, if in three years you trade it to a dealer, you car that cost you £3600 more with those options is worth a touch more than the guy who took the standard car.

Options are a choice, its a personal thing, yes selling it privatly it looks more atractive if it has those things, but only to some one looking for them.
