for those of you who have lowered help pls
« on: 16 April 2004, 11:55 »
hi

right i bought a mk216v which im well happy with!

the ride height is about 60mm drop! maybe more as it was like when i bought it so im not sure! its on bilsteain setup with shocks and springs apprently.

now when i hit it hard on a corner or roundabout and the weight builds up as im turning i get a bit of vibration through the steering wheel..... is this common?

ive noticed there is some scoring on the right tyre on the outside which i reckon was done by a bent arch which i have sorted out!!!! and it seemed to fo helped but i still get vibration and stiff bouncing sounds form the front right for some reason.....

there is no noise when the car is still and i push on the fron t right.

any ideas?

oh and the car is on its std 15 bbs whhels!

cheers
scott

just had a chance to go out to have a look at it!!!

and ive noticed that the body kit on the arch at the top has been worn away and smoothed off!!! so im gueesing here lays my problem i reckon!

the tyres ive got on the std bbs 15's are 195 50 r15 which ive been told are wrong and bulge off the alloys! is this right as this might suggest why they catch on the plastic arches!

Could it be the camber needs to be set? There is a certain amount of adjustment when bolting the front suspension in, maybe whoever had it just threw it on!

I got a 40/60 suspension kit from fk racing, should have got a 40/40 >:(, I found that with the standard 14" teardrop alloys on, I could barely get my hand between the arch and wheel! Now I have to "adjust!!" a standard spring for the time being!!!!

I think the camber is reasonably fixed on MK2s isnt it?? unless you use differnet sized bolts.

There is a bit of adjustment with the two bolts on the shock and with the 3 bolts holding the bottom ball joint connection to the wishbone... cos mine is way off at the moment, the wheels are more out at the top than the bottom ;D
