Arch extension coming off!
« on: 09 April 2008, 11:01 »
The rearmost fixing on one of me rear arches has broken. Rust has attacked the edge of the arch, knackering the hole for the rivet.
I recently screwed mudflaps to the arches, the weight of which has obviously finished it off.
Anyone suggest a bodge for this? I don't have a rivet gun or any bodywork repair skills.
Ta.

Thanks.
Is that the only sealant up to the job, or are there others?

There are others, but tbh tigerseal is going to be the best bet considering it is carrying some weight as well.

ANY polyeurethane (AFAIK this is what tigerseal is) sealant will be more than up to the task. You'll find it in builders supplies.

Definately any polyeurethane based sealant as it is strong, durable and also flexes so won't crack... especially when the weather is so unpredictable nowadays!!!

I used no more nails and it worked a treat, my arches are rusted too which is way it came off...

Before you stick it back on get some rust treatment on there to stop the rust creeping up the arch, I spoke to the spanner man when I picked my car up yesterday and he said take the arches off, cut the arch back a bit & get some rust treatment in there or grease to stop the rust spreading and then no more nails to stick the arches back on (thanks spanner man I knew that one!)
