New to MK4 questions

Hi,

I sold my old Mk2 a couple of years ago, I didn't want to, but it was starting to smoke a bit, but at 250k on the original engine it's hardly surprising, and have missed it ever since, anyway, I've decided it's time to sell my truck and go back to one.

I've seen a couple that I'm interested in and have a couple of questions:

1. One of the cars I've seen has 17" wheels on it, on the MK2 it was said that anything above 15's made the cars handling poor, (I had 15's so I couldn't say), is this the case on the MK4? The wheels look good, but obviously I'd rather keep it on the road.

2. Is 5.5k about right for a 51 plate MK4 2.0 GTi? I've seen a 52 plate for 6k, but I reckon I can get the 51 plate down to 5k, whereas I'm not sure how much movement there is on the 52 plate. Both of them have around 50k miles on them.

Not sure if I should have split this into two posts or not?

16's and 17's offer a good compromise for handling; biggest problem with MKIV is the chassis is poor in standard form so at some point you will want to upgrade the suspension.

for 5.5K i'd go for the 1.8T not the 2.0v; more power and easily tunable.

Or consider a TDI 115 or 130; depends on how many miles you do

as said the 1.8t are better but its deoends what you can inford to insure ect

as for price it all depends what the car has in way of interior ect but 5k sound bout right
