gonna do an oil change before i drive down to newark whats best when it comes to an 8v gti

I use Shell's own 10 - 40 in my 8v and clio 16v... Not had any problems at all.

?21.99 for 5l tho rather pricey

Castrol Gtx magnatec is pretty good as well...

anything with api or acea rating on them or vw 505.00........

i use valvoline......

i was told by a lad that a bunch of rally racers used castrol in there engine and it wore bearings out !!! it doesnt have something in it which protechs well at hihg temp so they used valvoline and had no problems......

talking about oil changes, how much do VW charge for an oil filter. Herd they were the cheapest?

Valvoline...where from and how much???

most back street shops sell valvoline or ford dealers!

always use genuine oil filters........

I think my last filter cost ?3.50 or something from a VAG parts place. They are supposed to be better due to having a non return valve, which helps keep the oil pressure up in the top of the head when the engine is stopped?? Nice for the tappets or summat.

Castrol GTX magnitec. Not that it stays in for that long anymore. Its a bit of an oil burner these days :(. Doesnt leak though  :-\

Mobil 1 fully synthetic.

No good if ya car has been run on sh!t from day one tho ... if u have a new car, run it on this for as long as u have it ... best oil out there.

Black - bare in mind an engine was designed to have oil with a certain vicious rating, hence the value of say 15w 40.

If you have an older engine, fully synthetic is too watery and you'll end up killin your engine !!!

I must say from a racing background I was always steered towards Vavoline.
