If it wasn't for traction control and ESP hot hatches would still only have 130 hp, the technology gives the engineers the scope to put 200+hp into FWD cars.
When you do loose traction and control and it is always when you least expect it, for example on a straight road during an overtake, next thing you know you are driving on the verge.
I think on a typical UK road you are foolish to try to turn it off. Just my opinion.
