Hello

As I currently have a GTI on order, (6 weeks to go!!!) I thought I'd register and get involved with the forum, so nice to meet you all.

The car I've ordered is a manual, diamond black, 18" Monza's, arm rest with Ipod, luxury pack and the computer.

I came close to ordering the Ed30, but prefered the full leather in the GTI for less money.

Please can anyone help me with the following.

1) Chipping, how does this impact my warranty? my apologies but my technical knowledge is rubbish, but the last thing i want is a £21k car with a blown engine and no warranty.

2) I really like the Ed30 rear lights, can they be ordered from anywhere?

Thank you

Rob

you can order the r32 lights from awesome-gfi.co.uk. Regarding the remap, it only voids the warranty if the failure of a component is the result of the remap. Apparently there is lots of margin for tuning in the engine but the diverter valve will realistically need to be replaced with the forge one. The oem is weak and often splits once boost is increased

Firstly, welcome to the forum Bobnaldo

1. Re-mapping your car will invalidate your warranty, but only in respect of the parts it could affect, like transmission and the engine. Bodywork, trim and non-associated electrical parts will still have a valid warranty. These days tuning houses that sell remaps are more conscious of the development that they carry out on cars and try to stick within the boundaries of the design limits of the cars. A remap nowardays is unlikely to blow your engine, the most you can reasonably expect is a foreshortened life expectancy in the clutch and having to replace the front tyres more often - and remember to tell the insurer.

2. Ed30 and R32 rear lights are the same and can be ordered directly from the dealers or online from several places. Awesome sell them for example

Hope this helps

Thank you, the information is much appreciated.

I'll get the rear lights on order ASAP, might be cheeky and get the dealer to fit them for me when i collect the car. Are they easy to fit if he won't?

Going to see how i get on with the standard power for a few months and then see about chipping. My old car is a Seat Leon Cupra 180 bhp so it should be faster than that and some.

Really easy swap.  Couple of nuts on each light and they slide out.  New lights come with bulbs so just plug in and off you go.  From what i can remember dealers quote about an hours labour so not sure he'll do it for free at their labour rates

If you are going to the cost of purchasing new rear lights...have you considered the genuine VW LED rear lights ?   They are smoked like the Ed30/R32 rear lights.

See thread below for what they look like etc..
