I'm new - go easy!!

Hi, my names Lewis, i'm 23 and just joined the forum.

I'm new to VW and golfs so am here to learn and get tips and hints from you regulars.

I have just bought a X reg 3dr Golf 2.0 Gti, 45,000m with full VW history, very very tidy, no chips or scratches or dents.  I know it's not the quickest model, but with a £4000 budget, and low mileage required the turbo's were a lil out my price range.  I have needed to free up cash in order to save for a house which is the reason i have just sold my Astra VXR, and bought the golf.  Obviously the cars are worlds apart in terms of power, but i love the fact i have got 280miles to half a tank of fuel in the golf!!! I think the golf is a good sensible compromise, they are still a respectable and cool looking car to be seen in.  I love the subtle way you can make them look spot on, with very few mods.

I'm lookin to do a few things to the golf, it's totally standard at the mo, but the obligatory wheels and lowering will happen.

Just wandering, can you chip the 2.0 8v?

hi mate fellow 2.0l driver.

i suggest u lower it 30mm and get some 18"s on it, with all the right intake parts and exhaust u can get her upto 140bhp but it is alot of money 4 what u gain.

watch out 4 the 2.0l's there oil drinkers to, but all in all still quite quick (not like the 1.8t tho)

yeah 18's and 30mm are def the first thing i will do.  I'll keep an eye on the oil aswell cheers

I was surpirsed, they are still quite nippy, onced u get them going, i find 4th gear very good.

they are quite "nippy" and beat most spooty teenagers out there in there saxo's and what not.

for a nice cheap engine mod id go and fit this

it will give u more power intake witha deeper roar to the engine, also a miltek exhaust will benefit it to

havent done much to mine only had it a nearly a year. so far is

front aero wipers soon to be rear aswell waiting the postman
clear side repeaters and clear orange bulbs
18" audi A8 wheels
front grill anniversary badge
replaced 2.0 rear badge with a anniversary gti badge

to be done: in no peticular order!!!
312mm front brake conversion
256mm rear brake conversion
audi tt pedals and footrest
brushed aluminium interior set
new headunit
R32 steering wheel
1.8t engine conversion

Hi Lewis,

Your in the exact same boat as me, sounds like you got a hell of a better deal than me though. I just purchased a 2.0GTi 3 dr Black, with 46k on a 51 Plate, paid 5200, but from a dealership with full service etc...

Im gna chuck some 18" RS6 Alloys on, and perhaps lower 35mm, but i just got to get myself some spacers to widen the wheels out. Loooks Great.

I was just wondering, this DSG air intake kit, will it be more beneficial than an induction kit...?

I got myself some rs6 alloys 18's for 50 quid last night (yes fifty quid!), whacked them on the motor they look wicked!
