Electric Windows
« on: 15 April 2004, 15:59 »
To anyone who has a 1.3 and put electric windows in. Is the loom all in the car for the motors and stuff, or only bits of it?

To anyone. What exacly do i need for this, other than the switches, loom, and motors? Has anyone done this? Is it easy?

No mate the loom isnt in the car.

its soo soo easy.

the old winder mechanism clips out, and the motor mechanism clips back in. screw it all back up and your done.

the wiring loom...red is permanent live, black/yellow is ignition live and the brown is earth.

took me a few mins on each side and am well chuffed :D

The only problem i had was with the door membrain, make sure you fit one back to the door, or re-seal the existing one when your finished. Thats the sh!t part :(

Cool. Basically what i wanted to know was whether i would need a different lifting mechanism, but from what you say, all i need is a motor, switches and wire. Right??!

sorry i dint make this clear....

you need the whole motor and motor mechanism bit.

these are the mechanism's that needs to be taken out...

then u replace those with the motor mechanism's (they look similar but have a motor attached to them ;) )

Thats alright, i was being a bit slow!! What sort of price should i be looking at really? Most scrap things are cheap, but.... Finally, I shouldn't have any problems with removing the mechanism should i?

its just 4-5 bolts to remove than then it all clips out. i took it out with the window half way down to make it more easy.

Make sure you selotape the windows to the top of the door or they will drop whilst doing this, dont wanna break sumin enit ;)

ohh and i got my leccy windows from this site for about ?50 i think ???

If I were you I'd take the windows out completely, just wind em right down, undo the 2 screws that hold em on and they just lift out no fuss.  No need to remove the rubber trim, if you tilt them forward first it helps.

Fitting is a piece of p155, just make sure you wire em up so they only work when ignition is on.  If you pull your fusebox out and have a look at the back you'll see a load of spade connectors.  On my early electric fusebox (hazard switch on dash) the connectors on the right, drivers door side are all ignition live and the ones on the left are constant live.  Above the fusebox theres a common ground point 'claw' type thing.  The windows need a 25amp fuse I believe, can't remember off the top of me head, Blue do you know?

think it was a 25amp fuse. my wiring loom is all VAG and un-cut (saves alot of time) so has the fuse with it and a relay.

If you are gonna fit leccy windows, get originals with original wiring.
